Symmetry. An inherent rule that governs the nature of our existence. The law of beauty.
To me, symmetry is about the continuity of an experience or an expression. Not only is it visually appealing to the eye, but it invokes a feeling of serenity, completion and cohesion. As it is seen in nature, the human body, and sacred geometry, it creates this notion of order and harmony while simultaneously subduing chaos.
Symmetry is a defining factor of Sacred Geometry, the science and study of fundamental patterns, proportions, and ratios that create the basic nature of physical, physiological and psychological reality. From atoms and stars, seashells and flowers, and even hurricanes, it has been shown to be intrinsically woven into the fabric of our existence.
The strongest example of sacred geometry is known as the Φ golden ratio Φ and is closely related to the fibonacci sequence. It shows up as the most consistent and predictable principle that recurs throughout the universe. This (divine) symmetry being so deeply tied to not only our bodies, but entire existence within the cosmos, makes our inherent preference for it in our personal lives unsurprising.
Nature // The Human Body
Physiology is the study of how living organisms function systematically on an organic, cellular and molecular level. Within the study of physiology, the connection to symmetry and sacred geometry becomes abundantly clear. It's derived from the ancient greek word "physis" meaning "nature in origin." Biological life is intrinsically interconnected, as there is a recurrence of fractals and isomorphic self reflections seen throughout nature. Think of the helical spirals of DNA, the veins of leaves, crystalline formations, snowflakes, spiderwebs, or the pattern of seeds in a sunflower. Even our cells possess an innate spacial awareness in the body's tissue.
Sacred Geometry Symbols
The most notable forms of sacred geometry symbols seen in pop culture are the flower of life, the seed of life and (maybe?) metatron's cube. These three specifically symbolize interconnectedness, divine structure, and divine unfolding, respectively. The utilization of sacred geometry symbols outside of mere admiration is vast. In my observation and research, I've noticed how most of the symbols collectively come back to themes of harmony, balance, life, oneness, completion or working towards it, and organization. & Depending on a person's belief, personality, visual appreciation, or even what they want to embody, one may resonate more with a specific symbol than another.
The nature of these symbols, as well as their individual meanings and associations makes me wonder about the choice of visual and symmetrical proportion based on a specific symbol and it's point of origin.
Nevertheless, the mere existence of these symbols and their inherent reflections of the nature of reality comes back to something i've mentioned repeatedly: Symmetry is intrinsically reflected in the cosmos, our human bodies, and our lives.
